Local artists were at work around town performing demos and exhibitions of their many talents.

Despite the on- and off- again rainfall, it was a great evening at the annual ArtWalk event on September 1st. As the Town of Leonardtown celebrated their Fourth Anniversary of receiving their coveted designation as an Official Arts & Entertainment District, galleries and shops stayed open late as demos were performed by local artisans. The night’s showcase of talent included pottery artist Rachael Platt from the North End Gallery, Nicole Stewart who was skillfully plein air painting on The Square, Flavio Bardeles at his very first show at the Yellow Door Art Studios, as well as many other artists holding exhibitions throughout town.

As part of the ArtWalk activities sponsored by the St. Mary’s Arts Council, works of various media types were submitted and displayed at participating businesses. First Friday visitors made their rounds about town, voted for their three favorite pieces, then dropped off their ballots at the Leonardtown Arts Center. The winner of the contest will be announced soon by the Arts Council and posted on their website, all pieces will be on display through September 30th.

We invite you to join us on October 6th for Pink Friday featuring the “Uplifting Designs Bra Art Show” to benefit local cancer support groups. The “blinged-up bras” will be on display at the small park in Downtown Leonardtown near Fuzzy Farmers Market, a donation to the cause will allow you to vote for your very favorites. Participating shops and restaurants will also be making donations to the cause from their evening sales. Are you and/or your group interested in entering a decorated bra as part of the Pink Friday fundraiser? See the registration page on the St. Mary’s County Arts Council website for details.

Also scheduled will be the final free concert of 2017, taking center stage at Leonardtown Square will be Hook, Line, & Sinker from 6-8 pm, followed by the monthly audience participation Drum Circle with the SoMar Drummers at the Leonardtown Arts Center from 8-9:30 pm. A big thank you to our Platinum Level Sponsors (Marrick Homes, Quality Built Homes, and the Winegardner Motor Company) whose generous financial support allows us to hold these community events.
