Love for our community (and creatively colored hairstyles!) were definitely in the air on First Friday! A heart-felt “thank you” to all who braved the day’s wild weather and came out for a myriad of opening receptions and workshops at the art studios, one-night only specials at the shops and restaurants, live music and entertainment, and other activities and events.
SPICE Studio and friends rocked the evening with style in support of the St. Mary’s County Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, whose mission is to build beds for children in our community who have been without this most simple staple. Over $700 was raised in just a few hours through SPICE’s W.I.I.G. (Women Invested In Giving) program through donations from guests Xella Winery, a pop-up shop at SPICE by Athleta, and the generosity of many individuals who contributed to the cause. Visit www.somdspice.com and www.shpbeds.org to learn more about how you can help. A raffle for gift cards for Athleta will continue for the week to further support the fundraiser, stop by SPICE for your tickets through Feb. 15th and a chance to win!
Don’t forget to post your photos taken at the “selfie bench” Downtown at the corner of Washington & Fenwick Streets. Just add to your social media and tag with #loveltown, to be entered into a random drawing for a gift card to a local restaurant.
Save the date for our next monthly event with the theme of “March Madness First Friday” scheduled for March 6th, 2020 from 5-8 PM, special events and activities will be announced soon on the Leonardtown First Fridays Facebook page. The audience participation Drum Circle with the SoMar Drummers will also continue from 7-8 PM at the Town Hall.
A note of appreciation to the Town of Leonardtown, the Commissioners of Leonardtown, LBA business members, the SoMar Drummers, the First Friday volunteers, and Platinum Sponsors (The County Times, Leonardtown Chevy Buick GMC, Marrick Homes, Quality Built Homes, and Visit St. Mary’s) who all helped to make this yet another wonderful community event!
