An exciting line-up of events is scheduled for First Friday in May including the return of local jazz band Higher Standards in concert at Downtown Leonardtown, pack your lawn chairs and come enjoy the music! Bring your family and friends for the free concert, pets on leashes are welcome too.
A few HIGHLIGHTS for the evening among many other activities: Multi-talented actor and singer Henry Thedens, all the way from Hamburg, Germany, will be a featured guest at North End Gallery and will be presenting a “Gallery Talk” at 7 PM, the North End Gallery will also be holding an opening reception for their new show “Taste of Art”. The monthly Art Share Series will be continuing with Dr. Janice Walthour performing a poetry reading from 5:30-6:30 PM at St. Mary’s County Arts Council. Be sure to also visit the Port of Leonardtown Winery as the “Reluctant Jazz Band” will be playing as part of the Winery’s weekend music series. Fenwick Street Used Books & Music will be hosting a book signing for local author Elena Mugdan. Painter Jane Rowe will be exhibiting her “Nest” series of oil paintings at the Patina + Stone Studio.
Art studios, shops, and restaurants will have extended hours from 5-8 PM for their First Friday events with several galleries hosting Opening Receptions for their new shows and exhibitions. This will be a wonderful after-hours opportunity to “Taste, Sample, & Savor” everything offered not only in Downtown but beyond as well. Stay around for the audience participation Drum Circle featuring the SoMar Drummers from 8-9 PM at St. Mary’s County Arts Council, all ages and skill levels are welcome.
